WHY PRIORITIZE CYBERSECURITY IN 2021?
We have just closed a year in which nothing has been lacking in terms of cybersecurity, and everything indicates that 2021 is not going to be better, if we look at the forecasts of the Check Point specialists, who draw a year in which you are threats will be a constant:
- The cyber pandemic: throughout 2020, Check Point detected numerous
cyberattack campaigns that used themes related to the pandemic as a hook, a
theme that will remain a continuing trend over the next twelve months. For this
reason, it is key that companies and users exercise caution against any type of
communication they receive in their email, mobile phone, etc.
- Constant risk for the health sector: the coronavirus crisis does
not give truce, collapsing hospitals and other organizations in the health
sector. To this must also be added the fact that cybercriminals are targeting
many of their cyberattack campaigns against them due to lack of time and
resources to keep their systems updated and secure. For its part, Check Point
recently warned that attacks against the health sector had doubled in Spain in
November 2020, ranking as the third country with the highest risk worldwide,
only behind Canada and Germany. Therefore, it is key to increase the protection
of these environments.
- Double extortion ransomware: the range of cyberattacks is growing
and stands out for its evolution. However, more common threats such as
ransomware (with a 160% increase in Q3 2020) are also evolving, making
companies vulnerable to these types of threats as well. Last year Check Point
detected a new variant of this computer virus, known as “double extortion”, by
means of which cybercriminals first extract large amounts of sensitive data
before encrypting the infected computer and then threatening their victim with
publishing it. Information unless the ransom is paid. To prove that their
threat is true, they publish a small amount of data on the dark web, thus increasing
the level of pressure.
- New challenges with 5G: the coronavirus crisis paused many of the
technological and development projects that companies had in mind for 2020. One
of them is the implementation of the fifth generation of telecommunications
networks, which brings with it a new environment of high speed and hyper
connectivity, but it also represents the opportunity to launch attacks with the
aim of blocking connections between devices. Therefore, the Internet of Things,
both at a corporate and domestic level, can become the Internet of Threats. All
this makes protecting each device within each network, as well as the
infrastructure itself, a necessity of the first order.
In order to get the best
protection and to prioritize cybersecurity use the best
internet security software.
